CAN YOUR BRUSH DO THIS?
Aftermath. 2018. Photograph of my brushes after usage. The leaves venations is something I find aesthetically appealing and interesting to create forms right from my undergraduate days at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. This is something I stumbled upon while I was trying to carve an identity for myself back then, this came with the help of late Dr. Kefas Danjuma and other lecturers of the department. I see this as a way of reflecting back to our root where it all started from, I am talking about when the early men were using blood from animals and juice extracts from plant to depict their forms on cave walls. Using the leaves veins is my own way of substituting the artist’s brush, which is economical and equally gives a different look and end result to paintings. As one of my lecturers (Dr. Lamidi Lasisi) will call it ‘print-to-paint’ is a technique you should all watch out for at the “The Root”, a solo exhibition of paintings and drawings, which will be coming up on the 22nd of March 2018. #paintings. #ballpointpendrawing. #leafimprints. #leafveins. #naijaarts. #contemporarynigerianarts. #contemporaryafricanarts. #contemporaryarts. #theroots. #soloexhibition. #zariaarts. #oiloncanvas. #mixedmediaarts. #leaves
